Blue Chinese Wisteria These awesome vines are the envy of all gardeners, everybody’s got to have one! These wisterias are stunning bloomers, bearing large, drooping clusters of fragrant purple flowers in late spring to early summer. Chinese wisteria plants are twining climbers that can wind their way at least 25' up a support. Supports must be sturdy, because the mature vines are considerably heavy. They grow very fast, as much as 12-15 feet a summer! They like full sun and a slightly acidic rich, well drained soil. Wisteria is often grown with multiple trunks but it can be trained to a single trunk as a small tree. Chinese Wisterias are deciduous. Leaves consist of 7 to 13 leaflets of large size; after flowering, very attractive, velvety pods are produced, containing seed. It is probably best grown on an arbor where flowers can droop and form a fragrant ceiling of color. These are large mature plants that are about 3-4 feet tall with a good strong root system. They will be shipped bareroot with moist material around their roots.
