Blue Balloon Flower Platycodon Grandiflorum “Sentimental Blue” Sentimental Blue Balloon Flower is a low growing perennial with blue, balloon like flowers that bloom in late May until August. The blooms puff up before opening and have a wonderful green foliage. With a plant spread of 8-12” and a height of 8”, it is one that should be in every perennial garden. Easy-to-grow balloon flowers were one of grandmother's favorites. It is fun to watch the "balloons" form (the buds) and then swell each day until suddenly, one special day, they "pop" open. These beautiful old-fashioned flowers are lovely in the garden and fine in the vase. The compact plants reach 18 inches tall in the garden, sporting a mixture of small green balloons and larger blue at the same time. An eye-catching and beautiful display! As colorful as an annual, balloon flower is actually quite hardy and long-lived, increasing the length of its bloom time for several years after becoming established in the garden. Excellent for garden or vase, they flourish in the sunny garden and even do fine in partial shade. These plants are currently growing in 4” pots in our greenhouse. They will be shipped with moist material wrapped around their roots.
